My mission in life is to answer that age-old question people have been pondering for centuries – Can someone leave a dent in the universe using a Crayola marker? Yes, this is my drawing tool of choice whether I’m doodling at home or at a live caricature gig. I like them for two reasons. One, the flexible nib allows for great line variation and is pretty durable. Two, they are very cheap. That’s a win-win in my book!

When people see I use Crayolas I often get the comment “Aren’t those for kids?” Maybe that’s part of the reason I enjoy using them. In a way they make me feel like a kid again, and take me back to a time when things were a lot simpler. Back when you felt like anything was possible and the only reason you needed to do something was because “it’s fun.” When do we lose that mindset?

My artwork is a personal reminder to never lose that childish sense of enthusiasm for life. I believe it’s important to dream big and work hard, but also to slow down, have fun and enjoy the small things.

Follow your dreams. Just make sure to have fun too.

Manifesto

Here are a few guidelines I try to keep in mind to stay motivated and focused personally, professionally and artistically:

  • Life is short. You have to do what you love.
  • Small efforts, repeated day in and day out, can lead to amazing results.
  • Don’t be afraid to fail. No one enjoys failing, but it’s the best way to learn.
  • The more setbacks, failures and frustration endured on your road to success, the more incredible it will feel when you finally get there.
  • Inspire others by living passionately and doing what makes you come alive.
  • Continuously push your comfort zone and try new things.
  • Enjoy the outdoors. Be adventurous.
  • Live an active lifestyle, work up a sweat often and eat healthy.
  • Slowing down is not the same as being lazy. Be in the moment and enjoy the small things.
  • Seize opportunities, make life happen and live with no regrets.

The boring details

Greg is a web developer and artist living in Minneapolis, MN. Greg has been drawing for as long as he can remember. He’s always loved art, especially the art of caricature. One of his biggest influences was, and still is, Bruce Stark, whose fantastic caricatures of athletes were printed on t-shirts and pennants during the 80’s and 90’s. After his freshman year of college, Greg began drawing caricatures professionally at Valleyfair Theme Park in Shakopee, MN where he learned how to draw live caricatures from artist extraordinaire and MAD Magazine contributor, Tom Richmond. Since then he has drawn more that 10,000 faces. He has drawn caricatures of people from all walks of life in places such as New York, Miami, Las Vegas, Orlando and Iowa.

(note: I took the paragraph above from an older bio which I wrote in the third person. I was going to change it to match the rest of this page, but I kind of like the way it sounds, like the voiceover at the end of a commercial. Please reread using your best Morgan Freeman impersonation.)

So where’s the artwork?

I am currently in the process up revamping this site with lots of new art. Until then, you can check out my caricature website.
