Kevin Durant Caricature

“I’m always hungry. I want to be the best.” -Kevin Durant

It’s hard not to like Kevin Durant, and quotes like this are the reason why. He wants to be the best, and knows he has to stay hungry to be mentioned with the all-time greats when it’s all said and done. Durant is extremely humble, and I think that’s part of the reason he continues to get better. He knows there’s always some aspect of his game that could use improvement. One of the most frustrating things as a sports fan is seeing athletes with a ton of talent who don’t put in the work to live up their potential. Durant gets it.

Randy Moss Caricature

Randy Moss was back in Minneapolis yesterday playing in the Metrodome as an opponent for the first time. He had a quiet day, three catches for 27 yards. Through the first three games of the season, he has only been playing around a third of the 49ers snaps, and while he still makes for a great decoy, he hasn’t had a huge impact on the games. I heard one theory that Jim Harbaugh is limiting his playing time to prevent Moss from thinking that he is playing a bigger role in the team’s success than he actually is. So far, they are winning without using him much, so if he gets an attitude it will make it easier for them to let him go.

Brandon Roy Wolves Caricature

Six years after being traded from Minnesota to Portland for Randy Foye on draft night, things have come full circle as Brandon Roy will be suiting up in a Wolves jersey next season. I think this is a fairly low risk, high reward signing. If he’s got anything left in the tank, he will really benefit from playing along side a point guard like Rubio and the best PF in the game in KLove. If not, he’s only under contract for 2 years.

Pau Gasol Caricature

Black and white digital painting of Pau Gasol. Back in the day, when Pau was playing for Memphis and KG was still in Minny, I was not a big fan of Gasol’s. No reason in particular other than he was a dominant power forward who always played Garnett tough. Basically the same reason I used to hate Duncan and Nowitzki as well. Since KG was traded to Boston, I’ve started to root for Pau more and more. He’s obviously a great player, but from what I’ve seen he’s a better person, very thoughtful and passionate about life. And today, he won the NBA’s J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award for his off the court service and dedication to his community. Well deserved.

Barack Obama Poker Weekly

Here’s an illustration of Barack Obama for Australian Poker Weekly. They wanted a more realistic, painterly style for this piece, which is definitely out of my comfort zone. Most of the time I feel true digital paintings lack a bit of the character that you get when some of the sketch shows through, but all-in-all I am pretty happy with the end result. More importantly, they were too.
